As many of you know I am running the San Diego Marathon on June 6th 2010, but recently this event has become a much bigger event than just completing 26.2 miles—I have chosen to run this race on behalf of the brother of a friend of mine.
Cody Nielson is a brave young 14 year old boy who has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer. Desmoplastic round cell tumor is a rare and aggressive sarcoma that predominantly affects boys and young adults. Cody and his family live in Winnemucca, NV but Cody is currently being treated at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, CA. In addition to Cody’s medical costs, his parents and other family members taking off of work and having to pay for hotels, etc. to be here with Cody. The goal of this page is to help raise funds to alleviate some of the costs for Cody’s family during this time.
My 26.2 miles will be ran with Cody’s picture on my jersey and the thoughts and well-wishes of all of you pushing me forward, knowing that we are working together to help Cody with his fight. Finishing this race will be much easier knowing that I am helping out this amazing young man, but my race does not come close to Cody’s upcoming battle. Cody started the grueling process of chemotherapy yesterday and it is sure to be a tough challenge that no one should have to face.
With his family’s help, I will be updating this site with pictures and updates of Cody and his battle as it continues! Please help support Cody and his family in any way that you can. Well we finally met Erin all I can say Erin you are so AMAZING. I am so glad we got to meet you. You have the best spirit around you. You made us feel so warm. Visiting with you & Lorin & Sean was such a pleasure. You are all wonderful people. We thank you again for everything. By the way the taco’s & brownies tasted soooo good !! :) :)

This leaves us speeachless. All of the donations that all of you have pledged not only 1 time but more than once. you are all very selfless, amazing, wonderful, good hearted people. I could go on & on. Russ & I & Cody just can’t believe all the love & support we have been getting. It really helps us just knowing that everyone is behind us. It proves that the power of prayer is strong.
Thanks again for helping us out in our fight for our son Cody and this ugly cancer he is fighting.

Update: Cody and family are home and traveling to Salt Lake City every few weeks for chemo treatments. Cody has 7-8 months of chemo ahead of him… Cody, you are so strong!
