The Scottish Ruby Conference was one of the best events I’ve attended. Considering the sheer quantity of conferences out there, this is a statement I do not take lightly. For the past three years, the hospitality of @mathie, @alancfrancis and @paulanthonywils has been exceptional. They put their hearts and souls into organizing this fantastic event.
This year though something happened that threatens to put a black eye on the event for someone and make him remember this event in a negative light. On one of the days of the conference, someone walked away with @mathie’s iPhone. It was sitting on the registration table charging on his laptop (so obviously, it was not just a simple error and mixup).
I would like your help. If you have attended this conference in the past (or have enjoyed the material from afar), please take a minute to donate to a fund to replace his phone, and say ‘thank you’ to the organizers of the conference. Let us all band together and make a statement that one individual with poor judgement does not represent the group.
With just £5 or £10 each (or $5 or $10) each, we can say thank you and we hope you don’t remember this conference in a negative way. If we collect more money than it costs to replace and iPhone, we will let them take each other out for a dinner, have a drink on us all, or turn it over to CHAS (the official @scotrubyconf charity). This is about making a statement, not just replacing a phone.
Help us spread the word.
Thank you,
- @objo

Thank you, everyone. You are awesome, awesome people.
I’m not great at expressing myself, but I hope I captured even an iota of what I’m feeling about y’all here:
