The Grails “DynamicDomainProperties” plugin provides the capability to assign dynamic properties to domain classes. This plugin was developed by Robert Fischer as a labor of love and curiosity, and so it has been released into the open source community for them to appreciate and enjoy.

To ensure it stays within the the boundaries of the open source community, the plugin was released under the GNU-Affero GPL 3.0, which requires (among other things) the web applications to make their source available to their users. http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/agpl-3.0.html

If the commercial world would like to be able to use the DynamicDomainProperties plugin without having to conform to the GNU-Affero GPL, then that’s fine—but if people are going to use the code without sharing improvements, they have to compensate the author in some other way. If the author was building this plugin as a consultant, it would have cost a client about $2500. So, if the commercial community contributes $2500, this plugin will be released under the BSD license.
