On 12 October 2008 our son Victor was born 12 weeks early and died the same day. 8 weeks later I was pregnant again, but when I was 22 weeks pregnant I was diagnosed with brain cancer and our 2nd son Carl had to be delivered on 15 July, 7 weeks early so I could have aggressive chemotherapy without it harming him. He was born with 2 birth defects and got a stomache infection that he was unable to fight. He died when he was 6 weeks old (25 August 2009).
So between the 3 of us, our medical expenses have been huge, thankfully we have good health insurance so most of it has been covered, but there are always things that fall through the cracks. Our plan only covers in hospital expenses, so doctors appointment, bloodtests, medication etc are not covered, and of course funeral home expenses. I need to have stereotactic radiosurgery and this will not be covered by our plan. This costs R170,000 (about US$20,000).
I had brain surgery 6 weeks ago and am now not able to care for myself, so we will have to hire a nurse when my mother leaves. This is going to be expensive.
Our landlord will not be renewing our lease as he wants to move back here, so we will have to move on 1 March 2010. My husband is Swedish and we’ve just put in an application for my residency as I would have more treatment options there.
Any help, no matter how small would be very much appreciated. Please consider sharing this campaign by using the facebook button if you are on facebook. Thank you.
