Wow! The response is so great! We’ve been running less than a week, and are already over target. But, if you like Krita and would have liked to donate, there’s no reason for you not to: every euro we go over the target will be spent on having Lukáš work for a longer period on Krita, for instance, fixing bugs and improving stability in the run-up to the release.
Krita 2.1 has been released, so the Krita team is already planning for Krita 2.2. Krita 2.2 should become the first Krita 2 release to be completely ready for everyday usage by graphics artists everywhere. It should be fast, it should be stable, it should have great usability. Our ambition is:
Krita 2.2: a great tool for creating art from scratch or scans on very large high-bit depth, multi-layered canvases using large and complex brushes.
And to achieve that goal we need your support! Lukáš Tvrdý, two time Google Summer of Code alumnus and creator of the wickedly cool brush engines you can enjoy in Krita 2.1 is available full-time for three months. From February 2010 to end of April, Lukáš could work all day long on performance, stability and usability. (And, Lukáš adds, during the evenings he’ll continue doing what he’s been doing all along: hacking on Krita for pleasure…) We only need to make sure he doesn’t starve, of course!
It’s important to note that the entire Krita team is excited about this plan and supports Lukáš fully: we will all be fixing bugs and implementing features supporting our shared vision alongside Lukáš’ focussed efforts. Lukáš will be reporting every week on the progress made on his blog and on krita.org. The 2.2 roadmap is detailed on our wiki, and Lukáš’ work planning is here.
Currently, Krita 2.2 is planned for a release at end of May 2010 and Krita 2.3 in September 2010, ready to use for creating advanced art.
This campaign has ended, no more pledges can be accepted.

@FrenchHope, Krita is a multiplatform product, and quality Windows version is always on the radar. We have it running on Windows, just not extensively tested yet.
