<p><b>What is this new project about?</b></p>
<p>For years, the free and open source community has been in the shadows of proprietary platforms. First, Flash, and now, Silverlight.</p>
<p>We think that JavaFX is not enough since it requires the Java platform — who wants to wait for a minute for a JavaFX-based advertisement to be displayed?</p>
<p>We are launching a new Web-platform that will be ‘free’ and ‘open’ for use on Interactive Multimedia (advertisements, websites, computer-aided instructions, games, animations).</p>
<p>This way, file format will be standard and open. Inclusion of open standards, like SVG, XCF, OGG and OGV, which are not supported by proprietary platforms will be possible.</p>
<p>Project working-name is INFO, meaning [I’m Not F* Okay] — think of whatever you want, but ‘F’ doesn’t stand for ‘Flash’.</p>
<p>The project development team will include the same people behind Quixie (http://launchpad.net/quixie) and KonsolScript (http://konsolscript.org)</p>
<p><b>This project will be:</b><br />
- Light — no framework overhead; no heavy runtime-initialization.<br />
- Cross-platform — webapp is delivered through a TAR-like zipped file.<br />
- SVG-enabled — for smaller data size.<br />
- Streamable — Webapp will simply run once ‘initially’ loaded.</p>
<p><b>This project will include:</b><br />
- Player — a team-up with Gnash Player developers could be possible.<br />
- Scripting Language — either Lua (using Lua engine) or JavaScript (using V8)<br />
- IDE — though, scripting is provided, the IDE will be mostly ‘visual’, suited for artists and non-programmers.</p>
<p>We are aware that this project will be tough but it’s doable</p>
<p>Your donation will help the project launch the earliest time possible.</p>
<p>Initial funding will make full-time development possible. And hopefully, a working prototype will be out for testing by end of 2009. From there, we start promoting this new open web-platform for others to embrace.</p>
