4771 0 2009-07-01T09:10:19-07:00 USD <p>Docs In Progress is a 501&#169;(3) non-profit arts organization dedicated to empowering independent documentary filmmakers and creating dialogue between filmmakers and audiences through all stages of the filmmaking process.</p> <p>We are currently in the midst of our Summer Fundraising Campaign. Our goal is to raise at least $2,500 by the end of the summer to support two new community outreach programs which support our mission:</p> <p><b>Train the Trainers for Youth Media Exchange</b><br /> Through a partnership with the Gandhi Brigade, a youth media leadership organization, Docs In Progress will be providing training to a group of young filmmakers headed to El Salvador in August 2009. These young people &#8212; many of them first or second generation immigrants themselves &#8212; will be training and collaborating with rural and urban Salvadoran youth on a joint documentary project.</p> <p><b>Community Docs</b><br /> Through partnerships with local community centers and senior centers, Docs In Progress will organize screenings of documentaries by Docs In Progress alumni and discussions on the issues raised in the films. We have already piloted this program at the Charter House Senior Apartments in downtown Silver Spring and are currently in discussion with several other local organizations to develop similar screening series.</p> <p>Though we are all feeling the effects of the recession, <b>if each one of you reading this were able to donate only $10</b>, we would more than reach our goal.
