Thanks to an average donation of $55 from 90 individual donors, we exceeded our goal well within the time frame of our campaign. <a href='http://www.d-word.com'>The D-Word</a> co-hosts want to express our profound appreciation for your enthusiastic support.</p> <p>However, in thinking about what to do with the overage, the pressing need for <a href='http://www.d-word.com'>The D-Word</a> to have a legal and business structure became glaringly apparent. When we publicly rally behind doc filmmakers in jeopardy (like Andrew Berends and, currently, the makers of Bananas!*) and as we continue to provide a forum for members to occasionally rant and rave, The D-Word becomes increasingly exposed and vulnerable. And as The D-Word continues to grow as a virtual community, the time has come to make important decisions about how we&#8217;ll support that growth as a business entity.<br /> <br /> To help jump-start those efforts, the fundraising drive for The D-Word has been extended until the end of the month. To those of you who intended to donate and were too busy, or just didn&#8217;t get around to it, this is your opportunity to show the love. Please give what you can via PayPal or credit card.<br /> <br /> On September 3rd, we will celebrate the 10th year anniversary of The D-Word. One reason we&#8217;ve managed to hang around for so long is that we&#8217;ve never charged a membership fee of any kind. The D-Word thrives because of the collective generosity of its members &#8212; we share who we are and what we know with our fellow doc makers from around the world. We give our support and we get support back in droves. <br /> <br /> We want to continue to thrive as a community for many more years to come.
