Crunchie is an affectionate 8 year old whippet we’re fostering (picture below). She belongs to a rescue organisation, which is trying to find her a permanent home (she’s already had 4).
Last week she was hit by a car and suffers from a fractured leg & cheek, which has also been punctured. Her eye has also been injured.
We are expecting a $2,500+ vet bill plus ongoing medication.
She was kept by the RSPCA for 4 days without treatment for her injuries except for some pain killers and a bandage. We now have her with a vet who will operate on her leg for a reduced fee because she’s a rescue animal.
The rescue organisation is run by a retired couple who rely on donations and more commonly use their own credit cards to fund surgery such as this.
I am helping with some costs and by spreading the message via my online networks.
If you can forward this on to your network and help with even a AUD$1 donation, it will make all the difference and be greatly appreciated. Honestly, your dollar will make a difference to us.
Thank you,
Lisa
UPDATE 29/1/09
Thank-you all so much for helping us to reach our first goal so quickly! If you are just getting here for the first time, your donation will be of great help to Crunchie and the rescue organisation. Any remaining funds will be used to care for 15+ Greyhounds still waiting to be re-homed.
UPDATE 7:30pm
Spoke with the Vet today who has said that the break is in two bones and fractured into multiple pieces. They have had to order special plates in, which has pushed back surgery by yet another day.
We are relieved that they haven’t suggested amputation as an option, as the RSPCA did.
Surgery is planned for tomorrow and Crunchie will now be in another 4 nights, making it 5 in total. For this reason I have increased our financial goal.
Thank you so much for your generosity to date.
UPDATE 2/2/09
I picked up Crunchie from the vet this morning. I was shown the x-rays and both the fibula and tibia were smashed. A large amount of force is required to produce fractures of both the tibia and fibula. They have stapled her face and had to remove a tooth that was fractured.
She was very anxious and we decided to take her out the back exit and into the car as she is literally petrified by cars and traffic now, understandable really.
We’ll be back to the vet in 10 days for a check up and to remove the 5 staples from her face.
This evening she is relaxed and resting. Crunchie is under strict instructions from the vet to take it easy. I couldn’t agree more. That’s enough stress for now!
This campaign has ended, no more pledges can be accepted.
