Our
previous campaign was a smashing success. We reached our goal of $3,000 in just under 3 months. Thanks to everyone who helped out.
The developer we had arranged to make use of the donations from the Pledgie to do work on the game has now begun that work. And he’s doing such a great job, we’re looking to extend (or more precisely, double) the time he can work on the project, giving another 160 hours of development time (equivalent of twenty full work days).
To cover the newly introduced Pledgie fees and currency conversion fees, we’ve had to raise the amount from he original $3,000 to $3,250 this time around. We don’t want the developer we pay to have to suffer these fees them-self. We hope you understand and that it won’t affect your decision to donate.
Why should you donate?
This is an opportunity to help out a ground breaking game. No other historically-based real time strategy (RTS) game of this quality exists, that also works cross-platform, and of course, is FREE for all to download and play! Your contributions will help to fill the gap that exists in cross-platform gaming.
What if the donations are less or more than the target?
If we don’t achieve the amount we need for 160 hours (equivalent of twenty full work days), we’ll get as many full work days (8 hours) as possible from it.
If the donations go above the target, then we’ll use that excess to pay the developer for as many full work days (8 hours) as possible until funds run out.
Anything left over will be put aside to help with website, forum, and SVN server maintenance.
Special Thank You
In order to get these, we need to know who to give them to. Please email kieran776[at]gmail[dot]com using the same email you used to donate here, and send me your WFG forum username and twitter username. Please do NOT provide any passwords. Usernames only will suffice.
What is 0 A.D.?
0 A.D. (pronounced “zero ey-dee”) is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy (RTS) game of ancient warfare. In short, it is a historically-based war/economy game that allows players to relive or rewrite the history of Western civilizations, focusing on the years between 500 B.C. and 500 A.D. The project is highly ambitious, involving state-of-the-art 3D graphics, detailed artwork, sound, and a flexible and powerful custom-built game engine.
The game has been in development by Wildfire Games (WFG), a group of volunteer, hobbyist game developers, since 2001. The code and data are available under the GPL license, and the art, sound and documentation are available under CC-BY-SA. In short, we consider 0 A.D. an an educational celebration of game development and ancient history.

@Rens Not sure what we would gain by spreading out the campaign over multiple places, especially since every place has its own fees. Feel free to explain a bit more why you think kickstarter would make a difference though.

I believe that kickstarter is bigger than pleggie it will be able to target a different group than you get here.
Novacut raised about $25000 in I think about a month not sure.
You have to set a minimal fund with in a certain period of time. If you don’t reach it you’ll get nothing.
On kickstater if you donate you tend to get a something back
About the fees I’m not sure.
I hope this explains mine point of few.

@Rens Thanks for the suggestion. I stuck with Pledgie this time because our last campaign was successful. But they have fees in place now, so our third one may not be here.
I’ll have a look at Kickstarter now, and will keep it in mind if we do another donation campaign after this one.
Edit: I had a look at Kickstarter. It probably won’t work for us. It requires a United states home address, U.S. credit card, U.S. social security number etc. I think it’d be best that we don’t tie our donations to a specific person/bank account/country. Pledgie is nice in that everything goes to Paypal, and we can then send that to wherever the money needs to be.

I would really like to donate for this, but my PayPal doesn’t support my country. Is there any other way? :(

@dannyhajj I’m sorry if PayPal doesn’t support your country. It does support almost all countries in the world though, and it would be hard to find a good alternative. PayPal is easy to set up, supports most countries/regions in the world, easy to use for the person donating, and allows people to send real money (people have been suggesting we’d use a service like bitcoin, but the trouble with those is that you’d need to convert the bitcoin to real money to get much use from it).
