NOTE, description below is badly outdated. Between Jordan and I, RMU is getting roughly 55-65 hours of dedicated work a week now, and our students are actively helping out as well. For a more up to date view on what we’re up to, see http://university.rubymendicant.com
We are still in need of money, we are working on getting our NPO set up, but for right now would just use donations to offset Gregory’s considerable losses since the start of the program, in particular since he shifted his focus to RMU full time as of 2010.12.1.
Work began on Ruby Mendicant University in June 2010. We have now ran two three-week long sessions reaching 25 students around the world, 15 of which gained alumni status making them permanent members of the RMU community. We will reach roughly 30 more by the end of 2010, and 45 new students in the first quarter of 2011.
As of 2010-09-29, Gregory Brown has invested over 300 hours into the program, while Jordan Byron has put in 25-50 hours helping build out our infrastructure. Between the two of us, we plan to put in 40 hours a week of work on RMU for the rest of the year.
We hope to start a proper non-profit organization and come up with a sustainable funding model that isn’t fully dependent on direct donations, but these things take time and money. Please help bridge us into 2011 by donating to RMU now.
Also, by helping RMU, you’ll be helping a lot of great open source projects come to life. Each student does an individual project during their course, and most choose to release these projects on github under a free software license. In addition to that, all of our course materials and administrative software will be released under open content licenses as time goes on.
