We are trying to raise donations to help pay for the many lawyer fees that our family needs to pay to ensure that she is kept safe. My mother, Sue, is seeking full custody of Rachel from our father. This is mainly due to the fact that he has twice lost Rachel while she was in his care. Luckily the police were able to recover Rachel both times after much searching in one instance and the efforts of a neighbor in the other. There are police records of both of these incidents which are in the public record.
Rachel is a very special little seven-year-old who has Down syndrome and requires extra attention. She is not always able to communicate important things like her phone number or address. She is fearless, which is something we love about her, but also a scary thing since our father lives near a wooded area with a large river.
We, her siblings, want her to be in the best and safest environment where she can prosper and have a happy life with those who care for her. There is no doubt that our father loves our sister, but the fact has become apparent that he is unable to provide a safe environment for her. Our mom has made is clear that Rachel still should have a good relationship with her dad, but that Rachel’s safety needs to come first, and is seeking full custody with supervised visits between Rachel and our father.
As many of you know, lawyer’s fees are very expensive, especially in family custody cases. There are five us children in the Henderson family; needless to say our mother has her hands full. Those of us that are older are doing our best to help out our favorite little sister. Any amount that you can donate would be extremely appreciated. All donations will be going directly into a trust fund for Rachel to facilitate attorney fees and other court expenses.
UPDATE
We are awaiting for the case to be transfered to a different county (it was in Boone and is going to Winneabago) and have yet to have a new court date set. My mom has offered to drop the case as long as my father agrees to sign that he will have someone else (myself, my brother or my mother) around to make sure things go alright. He has responded negatively to this. Rachel has been spending time with her dad and has started learning how to ride her bike. I will put any updates on here as I get them. Thank you again for all of your support!

She doesn’t deserve to live in the hell hole her father puts her in, (no disrespects) she deserves a loving home! I hope you win the case to keep her safe, so she can learn how have a happy life. :) <3 good luck!

I don’t have any cash to donate at the moment but I will the moment I get paid. I just wish you luck. My nephew has autism. He will be 8 in November. We have a necklace for him that says his name, number, and address. It really comes in handy. Maybe you could get one for her. I hope you win the case.

Hey Kimberlee, thank you for your well wishes. I don’t want to use this site to bad-mouth my dad – despite my severe disagreements with his behavior of late, he is still my dad.
Brooke thank you as well for the good thoughts!
To everyone who has looked at this or donated thank you, thank you, thank you!

I don’t have any way of donating but I’d like to say I really hope your sister gets everything she needs and lives a happy life.
I have a brother who is 14. He is autistic and he cannot learn well and he can’t speak. He is very hyper active as would always run away and has a lot of seizures. He has lived with a foster family because my Mom couldn’t handle raising him since he was 8 and I have only seen him a handful of times since. I know he is in good care now but I don’t think he will ever be able to live on his own.
I hope our siblings can grow into amazing people and live fulfilling lives.

To everyone who has donated or passed this along, our family would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are blown away by the generosity and your compassion.
My mom has a court date set for September 2nd. Her lawyer’s fees are two thousand dollars at the moment and you all have helped us an incredible amount! We will keep you posted as time goes on.
Once again, thank you very much!

I wish your family the best in your efforts to protect Rachel. All children deserve to be in a nurturing environment where they can feel safe and loved. I wish I could do more…hopefully soon!

I wish I could help more! Best wishes to your family. I do hope everything works out on terms that will work for your whole family. I’m sure your father means well, but his home environment does not seem appropriate for Rachel, from what I’ve read. It is very respectable that you all still intend to keep him a part of her life, regardless of these unfortunate incidents.

My graditude to all of you is overwhelming. I had a court date on the 2nd, and now we are going back to court on the 29th of Sept. I have filed to gain supervised visitation.
Hopefully this will be resolved and our family and I can start to heal from all the stress of worrying about Rachel when she is with her dad.
I want to thank my Amy who got this process going, I am so proud of her jumping in to get help. To those who have donated for my little angel, Rachel, I thank all of you again from the bottom of my heart.
